Dorien loves to inspire the next generation and as both an illustrator and published author she is uniquely positioned to make inquisitive minds feel passionate about reading, writing and drawing.

Her interactive sessions typically range from storytelling and explaining how a picture book gets made to question time, live drawing and creative workshops (usually based on one of her books). They can be adapted to suit Reception, Key Stage 1 & 2, and Special Educational Needs and Disability classes. She might even take along her little harp!

It is now easier than ever to host an author/illustrator in your classroom. Live streamed sessions are available via Zoom, Google Meet or Skype.

  • “For the last 14 years, I have had authors and illustrators present to our library students. This year, Dorien Brouwers presented to our library students via Zoom from England. She was the most positive, enthusiastic author I have ever worked with! She engaged and inspired the students and teachers. Her book ‘Sail’ is beautiful and a wonderful book to inspire students to be resilient and persevere, even in a pandemic!”

    Nayatt School, Rhode Island, USA

“The session was stimulating, practical and engaging and the children were excited to see the original illustrations and learn how a story comes together. After the session the children wanted to become ‘authors’ and make their own stories. We created class books to encourage this new found enthusiasm for creative writing.”

    Halley House School, London

“My class thoroughly enjoyed Dorien’s visit. Her beautiful book caught the imagination of my young class and inspired them to write, draw and paint their own stories. They were particularly taken by the most beautiful illustrations. The explanation Dorien gave about the journey from painting to book was fascinating. A wonderful story, message and session delivered in a friendly, age appropriate and engaging manner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit.”

“An online visit from England! Writer and illustrator Dorien Brouwers explained her profession and read from her beautiful book. The children enjoyed it and afterwards we created stories of our own.”
